My father is pathmaker from faraway village. He is called man with deep voice. When he arrived in the little river village, he married my mother. He spoke of his home often. Man with deep voice told stories of the cottongrass, of the green stalks shooting up with white heads. I was named for this.

Kannoyak missed his father and mother. The memory of them swirled in his mind. The white hunter had never yearned for his homeland with such ferocity. It was foreign to him and so he offered his spirit a moment of quiet so that he might guide it back to peace.
