The role of a wallflower perfectly suited the shine maiden, who had been trained to be demure, humble, and formal. She did not possess the artistry and wit of the Geisha, nor the beauty and charms of an Oiran. She watched, entertained as the pulsating crowd indulged in food and wine in celebration of the new pharaoh.

Suddenly a familiar guest caught her eye. A man with furs of pale sandalwood floated through the crowd on the opposite side of the great hall. Could it be?

Her body moved on its own. Keiko suddenly lurched into the crowd, still clutching her drink. However, she suddenly crossed paths with someone else. They collided and Keiko felt a painful jab in her side. Her drink tumbled to the floor as Keiko tumbled backward, the ocelot pelt and her collars of red and white bark fell away.
