He hadn’t seen Wyvern in almost two weeks now. Cambria missed her more than he thought he’d would, though he told himself to put her out of his mind. This was exactly why he refused to form attachments, because this always happened. He was just lucky he hadn’t relied on her for survival, though he did miss her strange flavor of companionship…

He searched despite himself, the endeavor leading him back inland as he retraced his steps for lack of a better idea. Cambria howled for her every so often, though he never heard that familiar trill. When was the last time he’d heard it? He supposed it must’ve been the morning when he’d last seen her, though he couldn’t remember. The Dragonling shook his head.

A different cry rose into the warming air as he moved further south. Trudging alongside a winding stream, he approached a pass that led into the lowlands. And though he hadn’t recognized her voice, Cambria immediately knew Odessia’s face. His own jaw dropped as he began shuffling toward her.

The scent hit him like a gut punch. Once, Cambria had yearned for children. But that had been in another life, a past life. But something about the smell stirred his deepest desires and instincts, no matter what his conscious brain had to say. Groaning under his breath, he hastened his step.
