Travel had been slow. Chaudry hadn't had the chance to eat anything but carrion yet, and he reeked of rot far more than when he first emerged because of it.
He still couldn't think straight, whether from exhaustion or because isolation had driven him mad, but it was in Chaudry's nature to plan. His weary mind questioned where to go for each step he took, and yet he hadn't found an answer. He could go back to the vale and look for traces of his family, or approach the mountain where his children lived and beg for pity.
Contemplation brought him staring down into a quarry. In the moonlight, he could see the shine of water below. He felt drawn, enough that he could have leaped, but some sense of instinct pulled him away from the edge and to the safety of grass a few feet away. Maybe he had survived the ocean, but that fall wouldn't be so kind.
With a sigh, Chaudry looked to the head of Phobos.

S'il vous plaît, ne me regardez pas comme ça.He could feel the burning judgement of his companion, but Phobos said nothing. He rarely did these days.
