the wind's a cheating wife

At last the smallest of the three fell, succumbing to the alphas jaws in one final blow. Blood exuded from the wound, dripping to the earth and smothering the terrain with that familiar twinge of iron. It was the banner of their success, painting the soil below a deep crimson. The spider swept into the alpha's side, momentum waning and a congratulatory nudge of muzzle against the male's fire-tinted side. 

Almost instinctively the head of the Eta tipped skyward to sing the song of victory. The melodious sound echoed off the Spire's tips, breaking into the silence before the lonely sound tapered off.
