The glacier had been abandoned, and the scattered remnants of their family had vanished into the wilderness to find their own peace of mind. The shaman had watched his sister and brother venture far away from where they had staked their claim. He had wished them well and vowed that he would see them again, eventually, but with the wisdom that age had brought him... he did not know if that was true. Before they had faded from his sights, Sos had whispered a mantra of good luck to them both. And though his heart sang a mournful song, he had turned his back on the glacier and ventured toward the woodland where he had been conceived and birthed.

The bear wandered through the night so that he could step beneath the watchful eye of the moon. Taggak had followed him all that way and still remained close at his side. Once the powerful youth found himself near the edge of the wild wood, the dark bird rose from his perch on Sos' back and released a cry into the darkness of the trees. Even the bird knew that they had found their home, and though the young bear felt a twinge of guilt for having led the creature so far from where he had been safe and secure, he knew that his familiar acted on his own free will.

With a careful sweeping of his chartreuse gaze, the shaman breathed in the unfamiliar and remained on the edge of their world for several long moments. It was a shame that he had been so young when they had turned away from the woods and had sought the peace of the glaciers. There were only fleeting images that passed through his mind, but he did not know if they were true or if he had merely dreamed them. When Taggak fluttered to a nearby tree and cawed brightly down to the bear, Sos turned his sights up and smiled fondly at the dark-winged creature. With a steadying resolve, he drew his head back and called into the darkness for someone – anyone – to meet him at the edge of their claim.
