Her teeth closed around its wing and as she tugged it from the sky he could see the shock registering on her face, too -- she hadn't expected to actually seize it by its feathery limb. As it swung toward her, its orange feet a blur, Breccan realized just how large the bird was -- but didn't have much time to think on it. Bat hollered for him to "ki'it," which he interpreted quickly.

He pounced toward her, though his leap was shortened by caution -- they were on a steep cliffside, after all. One wrong move and he would be tumbling down to the sandy beach below. Luckily, he was especially surefooted from his days racing up and down the slopes of the Sunspire, and he was able to grab one of the seagull's legs between his teeth as his paws touched down. With a mighty wrench of his head to one side, he jerked it out and away from Bat.

It was pure luck that the bird wasn't able to right itself fast enough. It bounced off the rocky edge of the escarpment, effectively knocking itself unconscious. Its body went limp and landed on a precipice a few yards below the two wolves. Breccan, breathing heavily and grinning, peered over the side. "Holy crap!" he said, whirling back to face Bat. "You okay?"
