Towhee offered to let Avery accompany her on a search for Sugar Glider, and Avery opened her mouth initially to protest. The thought of leaving the copse, even under the care of her older sister, was intimidating. But another part of her thought that it might be worth it, if it meant that they found Sugar and brought her back home. She closed her mouth and gnawed on her lower lip thoughtfully.

"M-maybe," she agreed hesitantly. "I d-don't want to slow you down or get in the way, though. Where w-would we go look?" she asked, then fell silent as Towhee spoke at length about the way that wolves would come and go from their lives.

She knew that; she had many older siblings who weren't present, and her parents had talked about how they were out living their own lives. Just because they weren't here didn't mean that they were gone, necessarily. But Sugar had disappeared without a word; that was what worried Avery.
