If anything, this epic journey would make for a good story. And Fox loved a good retelling, especially considering she fancied herself a bit of a storyteller. It would be awesome to tell their children (and grandchildren, and their great-grandchildren) all about how they had come to find their home. Or how they ended up staying on the plateau. Although, the more they searched, the more Fox was beginning to think that she, Peregrine, and Lasher would find something for themselves out here. The more they looked, the more they would have to choose from.

When Peregrine spoke, Fox realized she hadn't really been paying attention to their surroundings. Which was probably a mistake, considering that was what most of this expedition was about. "Whe—" she broke off, looking up to see the mountain that lacked a top. It looked like somebody had just chopped the tip right off. "Weird," she commented. "Let's go check it out." The weirder, the better!
