But there was a particular fondness for the white woman, even with two butts and a bellyful of puppies. Just like there was a special place in his heart for Scimitar, her mate, who was snoring close by.

When she settled, he readily snuggled up to Bazi, crooning a note of affection low in his throat. "Nini, Bathi," he murmured, placing a gentle lick to her lower jaw before his cream head drifted down to his over-sized paws. The moon and stars were reflected in his mercury eyes for a moment as he gazed fondly at Bazi's face, then his lids fell shut as the little boy sought sleep.
