It was hard and warm, and shaped like a waxing crescent, though it's colour was dirt red like the beaten dunes.
That was all, as far as sight went. Brac squinted against the sunlight, his eyes more adjusted to the dark, asks reached forward with tongue extended.
Blood, though there was none. Sharp, and metallic. He ran his tongue along the soft curves and found every angle worn away.
Old,he said as he withdrew. Brac seized the object with a hook of his paw and tossed it to the ground near his father. It landed with a thud and a puff of dust.

he turned it over with a hard paw, tapping his claws on the weighty thing. red is a sacred color. red covers us when we are born. and when we die, those who love us cover our bodies in red dust before we are buried. it is the color of ochre.
