While his idea of a settlement here was still in its infancy, there came the question of a name. The thought of stealing his mother's had crossed his mind more than once; it would be so easy to mark this place his own Dreadmurk - but it didn't fit.
Mictec had spoke of her own mother and he had told her to live life her own way. Perhaps, it was time to take his own advice. Above him, the sequoias towered like sentries, casting the forest floor in eery shadows and one by one, the pieces fell into place. "Murkwood it is," he murmured to no one but himself as a grin wormed its way onto his inky face. "Thanks, ma."
He reached the treeline and stepped out into the morning sun, shivering warmly, and cocked his leg to mark a nearby tree.

This looked lonely! <3
Murkwood it is.Thanks, ma.
In the quiet of the coastal woodland, those soft words carried just a bit; just enough that Dirtwater Fox caught some of them. Only a few. Murkwood. Thanks, ma. It brought a scowl to his face, thinking of his own mother who had never once confessed to the title. Would he have called her ma if she had?
He burst out of the trees bristling but otherwise unaggressive; agitated, but harmless. @Dagur would be nearby, of course, and the last thing Dirtwater Fox needed was a scolding from him. So he only regarded the man with a look of distaste.
If you're so indebted to your dear ma then where is she, hm? Up here?He tapped his skull with a paw.
editing an ending and closing this - lmk if at any point you want this revived <3
Something, or rather someone, had come to interrupt his routine.
Inky ears pricked as a figure erupted from the undergrowth and he was instantly on high alert. Like many, the stranger was larger, but this one held himself in a way that exuded feminine grace. Pretty, even, if Nox was able to look past his apparent hostility. Hackles raised and tail flagged, the captain drew himself up to his full height and approached the man swiftly.
The jab did little to dissuade him, and he fixed the other with a disdainful glare. "I left her," he chided simply. "Seems like there's not much going on up here," he mocked the gesture with his own paw, "if ye feel the need to make baseless assumptions."
Landlubbers were always the same; Nox did not particularly feel like entertaining one today and so he soon slunk back into the forest.
