Fox wasn't really sure what she was doing here. She'd just meandered this way and that and now she found herself tip-toeing the borders of some pack she didn't know. Heck, she hadn't even met a looney from this pack. It seemed everybody around here was a looney, so Fox assumed that this pack was made up of loonies, too. As she skipped along the border, Fox hummed a little tune that she'd made up a few months ago. It was catchy, and she liked it, so it had never really gone away from her thoughts for too long.

The petite creek wolf continued her meandering along the border, stopping a few times to sniff a tree or perk her ears up at a squirrel scampering on the ground. She knew that eventually she'd be chased out (or worse), but she couldn't help her curiosity. The Nu wanted to know how long it was going to take for them to get here, what they looked like, and what kind of loonies they were.

As ever, Chakra spent her day near the boundaries of the packlands. She rarely ventured far from the scrubby outlands of the great forest, where the trees were younger and spread farther apart. She took her role as Alpha and protector of Neverwinter's sanctuary rather seriously, and she expected the same of her subordinates. It wouldn't do to hold her packmates to a standard she herself wasn't willing to adhere to as well. Therefore, if one sought her company, they needed only to look near the fringes of their homeland.

She had picked up an unfamiliar scent a while ago and had tracked it to the southeastern edges of the forest. She knew it was canine and that it was not of her pack, but that was as far as her assessment went. It was enough, though. The rest of the details didn't matter – it didn't belong here. She spotted a slight, tawny figure moving through the trees and, bristling menacingly, moved to intercept it. As she approached, she called out in her gruff voice, "Your nose clearly tells you these lands are claimed. Why, then, do you trespass?"

It took longer than Fox expected for somebody to show up. She would have to report that back to Lethe so her leader would know that these lands weren't well-protected. But with the appearance of the bristling blue-eyed wolf, Fox was certain that they were protected on some level. She had expected that, of course, and her tail twitched when the overpowering (rightly-so!) forest wolf came barreling toward her and began interrogating her.

But why had she stopped? That was the bit Fox didn't understand. If it had been Fox, she would have run herself straight into the lingering stranger and given them a taste of what little muscle she had. Perhaps she was reckless. Then again, Fox was a fighter through-and-through. "Why do you show restraint?" Fox retorted, intentionally failing to answer the question. It wasn't the smartest decision, but the Nu had never claimed to be the smartest around. Her muscles were tensed, and she was at the ready. Whether her instincts told her to flight or fight, the adrenaline was pulsing through her veins as she awaited a response (verbal or not).

To walk uninvited upon the borders of Chakra's packlands was a fickle thing, much akin to tiptoeing over thin ice. The only ones who were accepted into her ranks, or permitted to visit unscathed, were the ones who played their cards right — minded their manners, guarded their tongues, and remembered their place. Those who were not so careful were generally swift to discover how little sense of humor the pallid Alpha had for such things. She was not a fan of having her time wasted.

She did not like the tone of the stranger's flippant response, the manner in which she continued to carry herself in the presence of a wolf who obviously had every right to rip her limb from limb and only restrained herself out of some misbegotten goodness of her heart. She did not care for the inherent disrespect nor the thinly-veiled insult that lay beneath her words. Chakra was a perceptive wolf. Not a mind-reader by any means, but she could be observant. She knew how to read between the lines. And the lines being drawn here were pretty damn clear.

She wasted no time with preemptive fanfare. Like a flash of alabaster lightning, she leaped toward the tawny intruder, eyes ablaze and teeth bared, thirsty for blood.

i'm going to go ahead and make the spar thread over in the other forum... and roll for you, since chakra is attacking. i hope i am doing this right!
spar thread

Well, at least she had succeeded in getting a reaction out of the big bad. The other female wasted no more time with questions or conversation, and instead came running toward her at full speed (like she really should have done in the first place). This was what Fox had been hoping for, in her stupid little head, and only time would tell if she had bitten off more than she could chew. Besides, the worst that could happen is she would go fleeing back home all broken and bruised. It wouldn't be the first time for such a thing, nor did Fox think her next defeat would be the last. She had it in her head that the only way to get better was to fail again and again.

As the pissed off wolf came toward her, Fox braced herself. She knew that there was little chance that she would be able to dodge the attack, so instead she did her best to lessen the damage. Instead of taking the hit full-on (hopefully), she flattened herself to the ground, hoping that her opponent would manage to miss out on the more vital parts of her precious hide. Once the damage had been done, Fox leapt right back at the stranger, jaws open and aiming for her opponent's left hip.

I summarized several posts in our sparring thread, and you're welcome to do the same if you want. This goes through post #9 in our spar.

Chakra's angry leap toward the other was swift, but her opponent was a little swifter. The fleet-footed red wolf moved deftly out of the way, simultaneously mounting a quick counterattack against her pallid assailant by going for her hip. Chakra was too quick for her, though, and attempted to knock the other female off her feet. She was only partly successful in the effort, though, managing to make the other stumble. Suddenly, Chakra felt sharp teeth tear into her ear and an enraged snarl burst from her lips as pain lanced down the side of her head. With an agonizing twist of her head, she managed to pull free of the other's teeth, but the damage was done. Her ripped ear ached and stung viciously, and she felt the annoying tickle of a small rivulet of blood oozing slowly down inside it.

Now viciously pissed, Chakra rushed her smaller opponent in an attempt to slash at the tawny neck with her fangs. Again, her opponent was faster, tucking her chin and moving quickly away. As Chakra moved by, the red wolf got ahold of her right rear ankle and managed to slash it mightily before Chakra yanked it away with a pained and indignant snarl. Seeing a quick opening, she aimed a nasty slash at her opponent's flank; the red wolf attempted to defend herself, but was mostly too late. Chakra tasted blood and felt a brief flash of wicked satisfaction.

The scuffle continued with each one taking their turn at attempting to best the other. Fox started off feeling pretty confident about the outcome, especially considering she had beaten that other wolf previously. Fox's opponent managed to nick her flank, but Fox was able to move enough so that she wasn't too badly hit. While Fox continued to land her attacks, the forest wolf somehow managed to keep missing completely. Fox chalked it up to her speed and small form, causing herself to be harder to hit. And then, for some bizarre reason, Fox found herself trying again and again to get to the other female's soft belly. She wanted to rip it open, watch her entrails spill onto the ground.

Fox attempted this attack several times before giving up on her and deciding to do the next best thing: attempt to smash the white wolf to the ground. It didn't work quite as well as she had hoped, and Fox could feel her strength waning. When the other female came close, Fox lashed out in a final attempt to defend herself from her opponent's teeth. But it wasn't enough, and Fox knew that the fight was over. She had lost. It bruised not only her body, but also her ego.

The yearling submitted to her opponent, lip-licking to show that she wanted no more of it. She had considered fleeing, but she worried that in her current state she would not be able to outrun the big bad.

Once Fox was certain that her opponent would not be killing her, the little wolf scampered home. She had been defeated, but she did not feel as if she had lost.
