Caiaphas told them how it was: plain and simple. It reiterated much of what Kjalarr thought and her ideas of compensation — willing or taken — very much fell in line with how Kjalarr saw the situation and thus he saw nothing wrong with it. They would pay the price willingly and live or they would pay it with their lives. Parking on the doorstep of another pack was beyond foolish: it was suicidal and in Kjalarr's barbaric mind what Caiaphas demanded was only fair. Would it have been reverse how would these wolves have felt? Surely, they, too, would be angry. Kjalarr's muzzle lowered, a subtle gesture to protect his throat, taking a small step forward, preparing to fight if that was what it would come to. At least they'd have plenty of meat if they killed them, Kjalarr thought savagely. He continued to watch them closely, but at the end of the day the two that had established themselves as it's leaders had the final decision and it was their response that would determine whether this ended “peacefully” or in bloodshed.
