first come first serve

No matter what he told her or how many times he asked, Anna would not reveal to Keelut where they were going or what they were doing that night. She had pulled him out of bed close to midnight, whispering the words to his ear so that no one else would listen. "They're waiting for us," she'd said, before calling him from the outside, and despite the cold and how dangerous he'd been told it was to go out alone at night, Keelut had followed the ethereal dancer to the very edges of the forest.

There he found the mud, colder even than the soil itself. He did not dare follow her beyond, she had it easier, hovering away from him and into the grotto, but Keelut had the bad luck to be bound to earth irreparably. He would have had to get his paws dirty, venture into the wetlands, and perhaps never come out again.

He followed only a short time after, a shadow, eyes piercing as he watched his pale beacon of a brother move through the trees. He knew that his brother had an other, a friend that was not entirely here. He did not find this especially odd, but he merely liked to follow sometimes, when he left late at night as he did now.

His broher, it seemed, was his only "soft spot" in his small world, he wouldn't particularity care should Astrid or Atshen disappear or vanish is particularly suspicious circumstances, but he would find it rather upsetting should his brother do the same.

thus, when they eared the swamp did he peel from the shadows and stand beside his sibling, peering at him in silence. The cold mud sucked at his paws, but he did not mind. Wherever Keelut would go, he would follow, and in the brightest of circumstances hopefully keep him from dying.

A silent guest had followed them, and Keelut's once concerned face turned into a joyful grin as his brother settled beside him. Had he felt the pull of Anna too? He would have been delighted, but his eyes did not seem to seek her, they did not reflect her light, and Keelut realized his brother had come only for him.

"She said they're waiting for us," he informed the silent one, wagging his tail in anticipation for what she's dragged him there for. In that exact moment Anna's light faded, and Keelut's keen eyes sought her out once more only to find her shape submerge in the mud. He barked, nervous about his best friend's sudden disappearance, but she did not answer. Instead, Keelut's uneasy calls were answered by another being, glowing blue right in front of him, right in front of his brothers, and this time Abraxas' eyes did glint with the reflection of it's light. Keelut's voice died out, he was too unsettled by the appearance to even focus on anything but staring, the light of the wisp drawing him closer despite the mud he'd just stepped into.

They were waiting for him. Who, exactly, them was eluded the youngest son, and yet he said nothing, dipping his head ever so slightly in acknowledgement. There was never jealousy, the fact that his brother could see the Others and he could not was simply a fact of life, and yet he was interested in them all the same.

his brother's call echoed across the stillness, and it was to the boy's awe that something did answer. His gaze too was focused intently upon the flickering blue wisp, wondering at it. Surely it could not be an Other, for only Keelut could see them. But what was this, that answered his brother? Slowly he moved, as if to touch it with his muzzle. But before contact could be made, in simply danced away to a further reach of the swamp, enticing, alluring.

His focus on the flickering alma was broken when Abraxas, who was not supposed to see the spirits like Keelut did, reached out to touch it with his muzzle. But it danced away, prompting Keelut to jump back with a gasp as he realized that his brother too could see the energies that so far only Keelut seemed to be aware of.

"Do you see it too?" he asked, his voice balanced between curiosity, amazement and the usual amusement. He followed his brother's lead and took a couple steps forward, each deeper in the mud, but closer to the strange little wisp.
