Shank and @Shiv had been traveling for quite some time, flying northward in as the earth thawed. Riding the current of the breeze, the birds were easily able to navigate through the sky. Despite not knowing just where they were going, the yearling kept her eyes to the coast and used it as a guide.

The sun was just setting as Shank's beady eyes caught sight of an unusual sight on the beach and quickly she was distracted from their travels. Following her interests, the young bird dove towards the ground, gliding effortlessly as she held sight of the ball on the ground. From afar it was blurry, but as she descended the sphere became more defined.

Landing lightly next to the object, Shank peered at the coconut with suspicion. She had placed herself far enough away from the hairy object to be able to observe it comfortably. If it did happen to come to life, as she suspected, she would be quick to abandon the mission. Despite her apparent distrust, Shank looked skyward. "SHIV!" She shrieked, calling to her companion in an unelegant crescendo. "WHAT THIS?"

Subtleness was not Shank's strong suite.

She was elated she had found her cousin (or had Shank found her?) A friend, her brethren! Someone finally to soar the skies with and help Shiv in her quest for a new home! For the Teekon Wilds would always be where she belonged, even if she had to leave it sometimes. The blizzard that had swept through the area had been terrible and unrelenting, forcing the bird to seek a warmer place to stay lest she freeze or starve to death.

As winter receded, however, the magpie was finally able to return and, this time, she brought along a companion. Unlike her siblings, Shank did not judge Shiv for her lack of mate or flock, in fact, she seemed to be in the same boat. They were wild, free spirits — or so Shiv liked to think.

They travelled along the coastline and Shiv found herself becoming familiar once again with the sights. She hadn't been here in a while, though vaguely remembered the lay of the lands. As Shank suddenly dove, her cousin followed with an excited chirp, interested to see what had caught her interest. She was disappointed to find it was but an ugly ball of some sort. At her cousin's screech, the other magpie alighted upon the ground with a flap of her wings (sending a few feathers into the air) before strutting confidently over to the coconut. She inspected it over for a few seconds before tapping it with her sharp beak. It made an almost hollow sound, and Shiv jumped back with a startled cheep, turning to Shank in confusion.
