Ezra feels the close proximity of his mother behind him, a presence he is used to and rather despondent without, so he doesn't pay very much attention to what she does or says so long as she is there to watch over him. That is until his game is brought to a halt as she calls for his attention, breaking his concentration with a sicky sweet hum of admiration.

He gasps inwardly. Sweet, he certainly is not! Ezra isn't sweet. Ezra is anything but sweet, he's a... a SAVAGE. His paw comes thudding down to the ground with a thwack, abandoning his game of capture-the-bug for a moment while he turns to gaze up at his mother questioningly. "BUH?!" His face wrinkles up in clear distaste for her wording. The exact meaning of the word is unknown to him (and he really doesn't question these things just yet) but he's sure he's heard it before in referral to one of his sisters with that same cooing tone meant to smother him with kisses and love and all that gooey stuff a little boy would upturn his nose at.

But what is more interesting than his pint-sized ego is the critter he was so vehemently attempting to catch in his paws before his mother's interruption. It is engaging enough when she seems to have an interest in the activity as well, and his mother-approval rating soars through the roof, but her getting to see him in action is something of a treasure. Trapping his mother's sole attention is a rarity shared among three of them, and he beams a gigantic smile that doesn't seem to fit his face. Oh, goodie! "LUUUUK!" He eagerly indicates to the butterfly circling now a meter above his head, his gaze rapidly switching back and forth between the thing and his mother. But when he looks away and back again, the thing has climbed higher into the air and completely vanished from his reach, and his baby face literally melts into a pool of sadness sad enough to make a stone heart turn warm. "eh!" Ezra looks to his mother again, as if expecting her to do something about it. Surely she could, she was his mother after all.
