The lake was mostly frozen over, and the beaver dams all had a coating of snow on them. Wick was annoyed that she had ended up here, for there was nothing to eat here and not much shelter from the elements. True, she was light on her feet, but she would not risk stepping out onto the frozen lake in hopes of snapping up a beaver only to fall through the ice and drown in freezing water. Even if she managed to crawl back out, she’d likely die of hypothermia. No. She would not risk it. Sulkily, she stared out at the beaver dams and wondered where she would end up next. In the end, she decided that here was not the best place for her. She needed to find somewhere more closed, like a forest. Glaring at the beaver dams, as if her situation were somehow their fault, she made her way north.
