He woke early just as the first rays of sun were stretching out over forest outside the den. He had been sleeping near the entrance, sufficiently blocking it from the inside and out. It was where he slept most nights, and it was the only way he could really sleep soundly. He glanced at his seemingly still-sleeping family behind them, doing a quick head count to make sure no one was missing before moving his eyes to the world outside the den. He could only see slivers through the brown, leafless branches covering the cave opening, but he could see enough to appease his need to keep watch. The ground was beginning to show in most places, the warmer temperatures finally melting away most of the snow that had lived there throughout the winter. He could hear the creek in the distance, rushing quickly through its path in the ground now that it was swollen with run off from the melting mountains, and occasionally a breeze would move through the still-bare branches of the trees, causing them to creak as they moved against each other. He heard nothing but the normal sounds of the world outside the cave, so he relaxed some, eyes closing as some of the tension left his body. He didn't sleep, but he peacefully listened to the sounds outside and the breathing of his family as they slept, ears twitching at even the slightest stirring or occasional soft squeak from one of the pups. It was a moment he made sure to commit to memory so that he could recall it later at time when things were difficult or maybe not so peaceful.

She was having a bad dream. Since she hadn't encountered much in life yet it was a rather tame nightmare, shapes becoming darker and flying at her trying to eat her. She began to twitch and whimper loudly in her sleep before she woke up with a rather loud cry. She sniffed around and blinked unfocused eyes at the dark blob that was one of her comfort figures. Squirming with determination Lainie wiggled toward his paws and then quite suddenly realised her belly hurt. She whined and lifted her muzzle only to unceremoniously puke milk over his forelegs. For a moment all was silent and then the extent of her sickness hit her and she cried, feeling wretched and hating how awful the milk puke smelled.

His head whipped towards the feeling of something moving near his leg just as her whine reached his ears. There was no time to move as the small puddle of vomit splattered on his leg, and his ears fell a little at the sound of his daughter's frantic cries. He quickly licked the evidence of her sour stomach from his leg, trying not to think about how awful it tasted so that he could console her. Then he gently touched his nose to her tiny cheek. You're okay, he offered quietly, hoping his soft words would soothe her discomfort. He wondered if her stomach hurt, and so he offered a few light swipes of his tongue to the round area, thinking maybe it might help ease any pain she might have. It was hard not knowing what exactly she wanted, especially with such an intense drive to keep his children safe and comfortable at all times.

I'm still sort of confused on how old she's supposed to be lmao

Her stomach kept cramping and aching but she found if she squirmed around it would hurt less. It was just gas but the small bean didn't know this of course, though later on everyone else in the den would. For now her sharp cries turned into pained whimpers. The sudden voice caused her to go silent and she felt a recognition click in her brain, she didn't know him as daddy yet but she knew he was always around. She squeaked as he licked her belly, his tongue helping soothe her even more than the frantic wiggling did. When he stopped she squealed urgently, tone pretty demanding for a baby her age.

3 weeks!

He stopped licking to inspect his oldest daughter, attempting to see if she seemed to be less distressed, but it only made her cry more, the demand in her little voice not lost on the alpha. He laughed a little at her tenacity, thinking he could already tell she would likely be trouble as she got older. Okay, okay, he said, amusement painting his tone. Already so demanding. He offered more gentle licks to her round stomach, gladly giving her what she wanted. He had a feeling it would always be that way. After a few seconds, he pulled away again to inspect her once more, this time hoping she felt better and wouldn't start screaming again.

A surge of happiness quited her squeals as he began to lick her belly again and she focused on the soothing sensation. Her tiny maw opened into a yawn, pink tongue stretching out for a moment before they snapped shut again. Instead of following nature and falling asleep she rolled over and sniffed, following her father's scent and wriggling toward him muzzle pointed in the direction of his muzzle. She stretched her small neck toward him, cooing softly as she strained to touch him seeking his affection. Instinctually she wanted to repay him for his help but emotionally she just wanted to kiss him and probably chew at his large adult muzzle, showing she loved him in her own little ways.

He remained still as Lainie rolled over and moved towards his muzzle, not wanting to accidentally jostle her and discourage her from her path. His nose met her face when she sought him out with her tiny muzzle. He soon felt small, soft kisses near his whiskers, and he smiled in response, the smile remaining even when the kisses were replaced with little, playful bites. Kavik moved his head slowly and gently, and his own mouth opened just a little to softly mouth the pup, his tail wagging against the ground in response to the prospect of playing with his daughter. He was careful to keep his movements soft and gentle; he knew he could easily hurt her without meaning to, and he would feel terrible if that happened.

She was overjoyed when he moved to make it easier for her, it was one of her first impressions of her father and it was a good one. He was so nice! She happily wriggled and then froze when he began to mouth at her, his giant mouth quite capable of swallowing her whole. She held still, tail tentatively patting against the ground as she slowly grew comfortable and began to resume nipping and licking. Unfortunately for her daddy his mouth was open at the time and her licks landed upon his tongue and then swept all over, so he was getting a free dental exam.

It was easier to rest when you felt another watching out for you. And despite their differences Kavik had taken up that role since Alessia had given birth, she wasn’t sure how to feel about the situation anymore. The more she witnessed the brute in action she could see that he was honest and levelheaded, some might even call him nice. Yet still Lie was having a hard time admitting that perhaps Alessia had simply fallen for the man.

That upsetting thought roused the woman from her dozing, snuggled across Alessia, Lie’s head rested atop her lovers. The two of them had kept a constant vigil of the children together, and although Rosalie had no need to be there, but she felt a strong connection to the babies curled against Alessia. Glancing at the three pups she smiled, and almost fell back to sleep. Wait! THREE?! Panic rippled through the chestnut woman.

As she went to rise, she turned her head toward the entrance and was greeted with a sweet sight. Father and daughter, both preoccupied and amid some sort of play session. Relaxing, she remained quiet and unheard by the two, her seafoam green eyes transfixed by the gentleness of Kavik and the Lainie’s stubbornness. That girl was going to be a handful. This was a sight she would remember for a long, long time. The smile never left her lips as she reclaimed her rest, placing her head once more atop Alessia’s head.

He couldn't help the soft chuckle that rumbled from his chest when her response to his playful mouthing was to lick his tongue and every tooth in his mouth. He remained still, otherwise, afraid any movement of his mouth might hurt her. Kavik stayed like that for a few moments, content to let her do as she pleased, but then the sensation to sneeze suddenly started to build in his nose. Carefully and as slow as he could manage, he pulled he head back. It was just in time too, because he barely had time to turn his head as a forceful sneeze moved from his nose. And then he sneezed again, and then once more, shaking his head when he was done. Then, he looked back to his daughter, afraid he had scared her.

She licked the air for a few seconds before it sank in that he had pulled away. She barely had time to react before he sneezed and she jumped, her forepaws flailing a bit as she rolled onto her side and stared open mouthed at her father. A few seconds of stunned silence later and then she burst out laughing, her high pitched baby squeals of laughter echoing outside the den. She rolled awkwardly back onto her belly and excitedly yapped at her dad, doing a poor impression of his mighty sneeze and then looking at him expectantly. It was clear she wanted him to make that sound again, she didn't know what it was but funny!

A few silent seconds had him afraid he scared her, but then she began to laugh, and he couldn't hold back the deep laughter that fell from his chest in response. You think that's funny? he asked, clearly amused. Then she attempted to mimick the sound, and he couldn't help but laugh again at her adorable impression. When he focused on her again, it was to find her staring at him expectantly. And because he couldn't deny his daughter what she wanted, especially when it was something so easily given, he pretended to sneeze again, snorting hard through his nose and attempting to produce the sound once more. Then the alpha looked down, eager to see if his re-enactment was to her liking.

She grinned a wide full toothed grin when her father laughed, it was a sound that she quickly made one of her favorites second only to the sound of her two mother's voices. It made her even more delighted when he fulfilled her desire and sneezed again, though this time the snort from his nose caused even louder laughter than before. She rolled and kicked her legs as she squealed, finally calming down after a few moments and instantly yawning. She smacked her lips and blinked drowsily, quite ready for a nap. She squirmed over and nestled in between her father's paws, curling against his chest and sighing happily as she prepared to doze off.

Her reaction was even better than he had hoped, the delighted sound coming from her making him grin. She seemed to calm and grow sleepy just as quickly and tottled over and settled against his chest. He smiled down at her, glad to have had this moment with his daughter to take his mind off of his alpha responsibilities. He rested his head on her, careful to place his weight on his paw and not her delicate form and then released a contented sigh. And once Lainie's breathing slowed, confirming that she was napping, he let his own eyes drift closed, sleep coming soon after.
