King Elk Forest Kinda Queasy on the Red Ones

Hunting the elk was off the list under most circumstances. Calhoun watched the herd with the intent of gauging their health and ensuring their safety from any stupid enough to try, a doe however, no one would bat an eye. Deer were not the elk and lucky for Kingslend, elk were not the only hooved beasts to wander through the forest.

The trail of prints Calhoun currently followed match those of a doe and based on the number of prints it was safe to say this one had wandered alone a bit too far. Hunting was always a thrill, but it was the large kills that really brought joy. Something about small game almost seemed unfair, boring, this would be a real hunt.

As the hunter moved through the forest, his thoughts would soon be confirmed as he spotted the deer a few paces ahead, casually grazing despite being deep in the wolves' territory. It was strange to see one so bold, or perhaps stupidly sick. Today it's walk would be it's death.

Célnes was often found roaming through the forests. She wasn't as attentive to watching the herd was others, knowing that they were quite safe amongst the devouts. Though occasionally did she strode over to see how it was going, and if the location was to change. However the herd seemed quite keen on the specific area, and thankfully so.

The elken woman could smell her cousins trail, rarely did he seem to wander away from the location. Curious enough did she stalk him so, and carefully. Hoping to be undetected, and literally by the back of his neck, she whispered, "cousin, it seems you found something." Célnes said, her fire-lit eyes had a smile as she glanced toward the wandering doe.

He was focused, as every good hunter was. The sounds of the forest around him alive as ever, yet that did not stop his cousin from sneaking behind. She knew what she was doing, and Calhoun was now in target mode as he bent close to the earth, waiting for the right moment to strike. It wasn't until a voice whispered along his nape that his head shot back, a moment of bewilderment that soon burned into a glare.

Not for long if you scare it off. He too kept his voice low, a rumble on the wind that showed he was displeased. Had it been anyone other than the King, he likely would have shoved her form to the ground to keep her out of sight, but he was below her, and he knew his place. Do you plan to distract me or join me?

"Shall we hunt then, for the old times?" Directly as cousins they would interact more then wanted, perhaps a few hunts here and there. Though as Calhoun was more on the religious lines, there wasn't too many times she could count to be rather found of him so. Rather she was preoccupied with her own issues alongside with Grayson and her mother, and troubles that brewed here and there.

She lurked next to her cousin, sun eyes watching the female deer ahead in the boldness of their territory.. If she could guess, perhaps her cousin has guessed some sort of prophecy from so- she silently chuckled to herself at the thought.

The hunter's retort was met with ease, something practiced like the patience a King should have, though Calhoun would still resort to rolling his eyes as he focused on his prey. It was a mystery what brought the lone creature through their woods, though unlike his cousin's train of thought, his actually had nothing to do with the high elk for once. While the encounter may be a blessing from their God, Calhoun saw the event more so as a stroke of luck, one in his favor and against the doe's.

Celnes settled in next to him, eagerly watching along until Calhoun seemed pleased with its distracted state as it's great neck lowered to the earth to feast its last meal. Without a word, the baron playfully shoved against his cousin's shoulder, a grin on his face as he emerged from the undergrowth, slow at first as he slunk before speeding along silently hoping his steps wouldn't be noticed until it was far too late for his prey to run. Lucky for him, it seemed that things would go exactly as he hoped. Rather Celnes followed or not at his heels was little concern to him, so long as she emerged eventually to help down the deer.

Until her help, however, he would need to slow the doe before it had the chance to speed away. In its startling state, the doe scampered, too startled to run straight at first allowing the hunter's fangs to shoot out, and graze along with the creature's hindquarters. Unfortunately, his grip simply ripped a gash as opposed to grabbing hold of the fleeing doe. Calhoun growled, his tongue flicking out to wipe the blood from his maw as he was quick to follow, not once missing a beat even as the doe slipped from his grasp. Unless Celnes intervened first, he would lunge again, once more grabbing for a leg or hindquarter.

She did not mind the baron taking the lead, knowing he was quite an excellent hunter. If he was not to be a baron, most likely she would urge him to be an Ivory rather then a Sage, but she did not know him well enough to guess what rank he would rather enjoy most. It also slipped her mind what he previously had taken, for while they were cousins, the difference in their prayers were so big, she refrained from interacting with the bare minimum.

Her cousin spotted her; the stray doe who lowered itself to feast upon the withering grass. He did not hesitate to challenge so, and she too fell beside in a dance. Célnes was not built like a warrior, but she had long legs for speed and distance, a keen trait that seemed to hold many of the Deorwine's. She watched for an opening as Calhoun grabbed and tore, trying to keep at it to drag down..

And she lunged. As he aimed to keep a tooth for the leg, rather then with her teeth or claws, the King decided with a brash headbutt to the side, as she wanted to bring the doe crashing down to the land, giving little to no hope to escape as the two would grab and pull to stay to the ground; and eat at it's neck.
