They were gone.
Sovereign had scented change on the wind, felt it in her bones as the wolves of Tikal began preparing for the journey back to their homeland.
The yearling did not follow.
The canyon was bare once more, just as the pale girl had found it.
Sovereign's ears slanted as she breathed in the silence, the emptiness as the sun set on the crimson land...
It was the way of things sometimes, she supposed.
Sovereign unburied one last meal for the road from a cache, snapping the squirrel up in mouthfuls in preparation for the potential of a hard life, until she could find, or build, a new home.
The Princess of Hildibrandr would trot for the Northeastern crags of the canyon and make her way into the Valleys on the other side by sunrise the next morning.
