Saffron is a large, thick woman who might appear to be a male at first glance, for her mannish hips and perhaps overbearing presence; if your gaze would linger, you would notice the softness of a woman there in her soft angles, and even the way she carries herself. By and by, Saffron is the color of flames–during and after the disaster, because her red-orange hue is intermittently scattered with the dull color of black ash.
