Appearance
Kohia shares a large, slender build with the rest of her family. This frame assists her where agility and speed are concerned, though she isn't the stockiest of her siblings. Her fur is a mottled hue of dark browns and blacks, though she also has a few spots of white on her nose. She has very pointed, feminine features. Her eyes are a light ochre, somewhere between a yellow and orange.
Personality
The first thing someone might notice about Kohia is evident from the way she speaks to how she holds herself; she’s all confidence. The young she-wolf isn’t afraid to speak her mind and voice her opinions openly, and she prides herself on being self-possessed and assertive. A responsible sort, she has no qualms with putting herself in a leadership position and having others rely on her - truthfully, feeling needed and as though she belongs is of massive importance to her feelings of security and assurance. Raised to be inquisitive and questioning, she does have a slight streak of defiance and a tendency to jump to conclusions - she can be reactive to others’ insensitivities, largely due to her own experiences in her natal pack - to her, there’s nothing shameful in being cautious, though some would argue it borders outright suspicion.
Despite this, she is typically well-intentioned and warm, wanting to form connections and protect those who mean something to her - she is committed, and what’s more, trustworthy; she has always been a wolf of her word. It may surprise some that although she appears grounded and realistic, she considers herself a spiritual sort, and isn’t afraid to commit herself to what people might consider inane rituals - if anything, it’s a way of reminding herself that she’s present and safe. This is where her exterior cracks, however - though she has a serene outer shell, she tends towards self-doubt and self-blame, and is occasionally in absolute denial of her own feelings. She uses a facade to protect her image as someone dependable and strong, but this leaves her at a loss when it comes to negative emotions. Biography
Born in a small family pack in a chaotic valley, Kohia learnt the importance of security and commitment from a young age. Her grandfather, in particular, was a great source of inspiration for her, leading their pack with a watchful eye and a protective spirit - they were surrounded by two rival packs on either side of their forest, and they did not seem to care when her family was caught in the crossfire.
Despite being the eldest and largest of her three siblings, she still found herself falling behind in terms of physical development, especially in regards to walking steadily and holding herself upright; running would have been a massive stretch. Her parents were soon informed by her grandmother, the resident healer of the pack, that she had caught a rash whilst in the den on her hind legs - a healing process soon began, and though she has regained most of her mobility, she can still feel a pang of discomfort when sat on her haunches.
It was during this time that Kohia fell in love with the forest that they called their home, learning from her grandmother about the various plants and fungi that could be used to treat all sorts of ailments. It was obvious that her grandmother wanted her to take up the mantle of healer, but though she remained interested, Kohia’s specific skill set made her more suited to taking after her grandfather - resolute yet cooperative, she excelled at resolving pack feuds and bringing wolves together. In fact, it was her who accompanied her grandfather when they made an agreement with their neighbours to not bring their fights onto the family territory.
This diplomatic approach ultimately changed when her father became the next alpha, despite the role being promised to her mother before Kohia’s grandfather’s death. It was gradual, but Kohia noticed the warning signs: females prohibited from positions of power, claims that packs they were allied with were hunting on their lands despite not a shred of evidence, fights started and land stolen when there was no need for them to expand their territory. The final blow arrived when Kohia became privy to how he was treating her mother, and even beginning to treat her and her siblings - attempting to isolate them from their allies in other packs and control their movements. None of them were allowed to leave pack territory.
It was this strive for absolute dominance that led to his downfall - he was killed when invading a neighbouring pack’s territory in an attempt to claim land. None of his family were with him or even knew he’d died until a few days later when a message was sent from one of their allies. How could they have known? It was her father’s mistake that made her learn how valuable connections with others were - interdependence was not necessarily a weakness.
Still, his actions had left her family in a precarious position - it wasn’t long before his killers came looking for them. The remains of their pack decided to scatter - it simply wasn’t safe to remain together as a unit. Despite this, they each decided to eventually head west towards the coast, with the aim of becoming reunited once more.
Months went by, and this journey eventually led Kohia to the Teekon Wilds. Though still hopeful for her family’s return, she has come to realise that she is in a vulnerable position as a solitary traveller.
