keeping vague since Takeshi's death is still in progress! Maybe @Isadora ?
Numb. Everything was numb.
Days, no, weeks have passed though it was hard for her to tell. Every night the girl struggled to close her eyes, struggled to convince herself it was safe. First Reiko, then Takeshi, both had been stripped from her life, though perhaps it was for the best...she wouldn't let her thoughts wander long enough though to answer why. Only the light of day felt safe now.
Empress.
A title too heavy to bear. Hotaru was barely capable of taking care of herself let alone a whole pack. Oh how @Haruki complained too, but even if he was more capable the truth was neither of them could lead. Maybe that was one reason she slunk away from her den at the earliest rays of light, to hide from the truth, to embrace the comfort and warmth of the sun. One thing was certain, being near anyone brought waves of anxiety, especially the adults.
Most of the time she wandered aimlessly, exploring the farthest reaches of the Empire where she assumed she would be safe from interaction. She'd follow the endless streams that crisscrossed through the vale a dull curiosity of their origin and end squashed behind the static of her mind. Today was no different as careful paws found one of the thicker water veins to travel along.

Hotaru.
Her friend had been wandering and they hadn't spent any real time together in a while - for good reasons. Isadora didn't know the details, but something big had gone down and it didn't seem like something "normal", judging by the adults' reactions. The young empress' scent traveled across of Isadora's path and this time, the bi-colored girl followed.
Careful paws carrying her quietly through the grass, not wanting to take Hotaru by surprise but definitely wanting to see her before walking up to her. Isa wasn't confident in her social abilities just yet, but she liked to think she was getting better at when was a good idea to approach.
—and there she was. She looked so sad. Other things too but they were too complicated for Isadora to understand right now, all she could see was sadness, there had to be a better word for what she saw... it was worse than sad. Heavier. She wanted to be there for her friend; a need that tugged on her and brought every slow, cautious, step forward.
She paused, waiting for a response.

Hi Hotaru.Ears flat, she approached from the side and kept a little distance to not crowd the young lady.
She paused, waiting for a response.

The static had drowned out her surroundings, and for a while, it was just her and the trailing water. The light approaching steps went by almost unnoticed...almost. Isadora's voice snapped her back to reality, heart hammering in her chest as her widened gaze quickly searched before landing on her friend. As an initial reaction, she had taken a step back, splashing some water from the stream before coming to terms with the fact that she was alright and tried to calm her mind and assure herself everything was ok. It was a short time frame, but one that went by with a stretching silence until the Empress realized she had been initially addressed,
Isa...um, hi—

For a moment she was taken aback by her friend's reaction, how quickly and oddly she moved in a way that Isadora was just not accustomed to. It was different than the playful movements she grew up with, this was different, it scared her - but Hotaru looked even more frightened than Isadora seemed to feel. Swallowing down several lumps of thick goo in the back of her throat, ears flattening against her skull.
You okay?Of course she wasn't but how was Isadora supposed to start a conversation other than this?
Wanna talk?

You okay?
Of course not.
She didn't dare utter the thought that snapped into her mind. She didn't even understand why she wasn't. Everything that happened...it was over. That's what mattered, even if the memories clung with talons she was fine. At least that's what she liked to believe, but of course, things like trauma were too complex for her to understand yet.
Hotaru let her gaze drift back to the vale. The sun had risen now, its early morning rays painting the sky with watercolor tones. The sight was pretty, calming even. It made her feel like things really were ok, if only for a moment.

Just scared me...

Talk about what? She prayed she wouldn't regret that question. She had seen some of the looks from the adults already, but she didn't want to think about all of that right now.
