the morning is dismal; a glacial chill in the air. it causes each breath ingram releases as he walks the familiar shores of their island on patrol to unfurl from his lips in plumes of white steam. misty fog rolls off the waves as they lap upon the shore, dredging up with them froth and bites of seaweed.

something catches his eye as it protrudes from the wet sand ...just out of the lowering tide's greedy grasp.

it's large, about the size of his paw ingram realizes as he digs it out of the sand. slightly rounded but shaped like the peak of a mountain; a tooth his mind tells him but not of anything he'd ever seen before. he grasps it betwixt his jaws and carries it back to his stash of small bones. gingerly, he places it down among the rabbit fur with the others knowing deep in his gut that this was the crowning jewel of his reading bones. the final piece that had been missing.
