"I've been in love a few times," he decided to share. "Although I'm not sure one of them was actually love. That was with my first mate, Hawkeye." He almost mentioned that she was the mother of his older children but couldn't even bring himself to say the words. "I'm definitely in love with Fox. And I was in love with Lasher when I was with him. I love him still, though... in a different way. And from a distance." He frowned, remembering their last encounter.

His eyes cut suddenly sideways to gauge Pan's expression. "What did your society think of homosexuality? Was it full of raging feminist lesbians?" he guessed, forgetting for a moment to soften his language around the tender, sweet Pantaleimon.
