"It's hard." Peregrine wasn't sure what to say in response to these two simple words. A troubled expression took up residence on his face. He didn't want Pan to talk about something that was obviously both difficult and significant until he was good and ready. At the same time, he was very curious to know what was causing Pan's current struggle.

"Hey..." he said after a moment, his slightly more altruistic side winning the battle for the moment. "If you're not ready to talk, don't force it. I'll be around." He tried to keep his voice light. It was true enough. He wasn't going anywhere, so even if Pan didn't want to reveal what was bothering him right now, he could always seek out Peregrine later. "Whatever it is, I can help you with it whenever you're ready. Okay? Don't freak," he finished in a playfully gentle voice.
