He wasn't asleep. Sleep would never find him when the kids were around. Even now, he feared he might roll over and crush them, or shift his weight wrong. Accidents happened, and pups died very easily in this stage. Day was woefully aware of that fact. So he snoozed, eyes half-lidded in the darkness of the den. Sunny and @Dawn were kept closer to the fur of his belly for warmth, but the den itself still retained much of Amber's leftover heat. She'd left only a few minutes ago, and Day had moved from the mouth of the den to allow her to pass and then shuffled inside himself to watch over the tiny beings he'd had a hand - or, well... a part - in creating.

Day had looked his fill and then laid his head upon his paws, waiting. For them to do something. For Amber to get back. For a packmate to drop by. Anything, really. He was content, for the moment, to simply be with his children - but he wouldn't say no to a bit of excitment, either.

Except, he thought, eyes popping open, I wasn't expecting that sort of excitement. One of the kids was chomping down on one of his useless nipples (honestly, he forgot he even had them most of the time), seeming to be having a tough time of it, too. "No luck, cutie," he said, craning his head and determining that it was the boy who'd decided to chew on him. Day watched as he clambered around, mewling and raising havoc. Adorable.

When the boy came to his paws, blind and searching, Day took pity and reached his muzzle down. A few licks were smoothed over Sunny's back, and then the male tucked his son against his chest, under his chin. If he was hungry, there wasn't much Day could do, but if he just wanted attention, it was Dad to the rescue.
