Khoe searched for the right words to say but nothing seemed to fit. She had fooled herself into thinking that Grayday was hers now, but she knew deep down that it would never be true. And perhaps she was overreacting (that was most likely the case, all things provided), but something in her nearly screamed that something was off.

It had been weeks, months even, since Adeline had left, so why was he so conveniently having dreams about her right after his venture away from home? The way Khoe saw it, there were only two possibilities; Grayday had either seen her while he was away (in which case, it must have been a damn good visit for him to be having dreams about her) or he’d never stopped thinking of her. For a moment, Khoe was unsure which answer hurt more.

You kicked her, she replied coolly, her voice as hard as stone and her glare even harder.
