Khoe continued staring on at Grayday, her eyes piercing as deeply as they could. She ignored his questions, and instead turned her attention to Lavender. The poor girl was still upset, and rightly so! Anyone would have been distraught if they’d been kicked awake in the middle of the night. For a second, Khoe wished that Lav was able to see who the perpetrator had been.

How did you sleep? she asked, though her tone was almost mocking; she wanted him to lie. She wished with every bitter bone in her body that he would make up some dream to cover up the ugly truth -- he’d been having an affair and Khoe had been too preoccupied to notice. That had to be the answer, right? All she ever dreamed about was her mate and the love that she felt for him, so it only made sense that the same was true for him.
