The woman led him back to where he supposed she was staying with her mate. His legs were tired, and his eyes felt heavy by the time they had returned. Illidan was not fond of traversing; he had done enough in his first few months of life to last him. Still, it seemed as though the pallid woman was drawing close to her destination, and the boy felt his heart lift with the prospect of stopping for a short while. They had gone far enough, he felt. Ephraim must have been close.
 
An inky figure approached them; green eyes shimmered from a dark mask. Illidan looked at him with bristling fur and his tail lifted slightly. As exhausted as he was, the boy was not keen on unfamiliar faces. This one reminded him faintly of the dark wolf who had turned them away from Easthollow. Illidan did not know that wolf, but he despised him. It was their fault that Ephraim had gotten lost! It was all their fault that he was now lost too. All he could do was blame in his youth.
 
Staring at the dark wolf, Illidan felt his chest rise and fall with adrenaline coursing through his youthful frame. The inky male was talking about him – not to him – and he felt as though he was unwelcomed there. Fearful that this male would be like the wolf who had turned his family away, Illidan braced himself to be sent back into the wilds.
