he followed after rosalyn. what else could he do? he didn't see any way of locating his family in the near future, and besides, he'd grown a kind of fondness toward the woman. she shared her food with him, for which he was grateful. if it was fish, he gobbled it down readily. land animals, well. . .he was reluctant, but also starving. and there didn't seem to be much prey to choose from, these calamitous days.
cam, too, was thinner than usual, which was something given his frame was wiry to begin with. his coat was dull and unkempt, and he kept quiet throughout most of the journey, merely taking in his surroundings and trying to glean some interest from the little things, rather than focusing on what he'd lost.
the coast was different than before. debris littered the shores, standing water was abundant, and the smell of dead and rotting things permeated the air. cam was just about to ask rosalyn what on earth had happened here when he spotted the slender brown woman nearby, walking along the engorged river. his ears shoved forward, nostrils flaring as he tried to pick up her scent.
she didn't look familiar, but maybe she knew something about either his or his companion's family. he glanced shyly toward rosalyn, wondering what she thought of approaching the stranger—a direction she didn't seem to be too keen on at the moment.
