The journey through the mountains gave him time to think. The long and short of it was simple: they needed safety. Once Zephyr had told him of his true self, they had forged a strange bond. It was one he had not shared intentionally with Takiyok, for she had her own charge to deal with under her wing. After their long conversation, Taikon was both extremely optimistic and distressed about needing to tell Zephyr, who had been avoiding him for whatever reason. Taikon's priority was Takiyok and Taktuq, for they were the most vulnerable of the group in their current state. And, he would do anything for her.
Zephyr still held him in his grasp. Taikon played with thoughts about sexuality, about gender, about relationships in general. None of it made complete sense to him, and so he carried on as a mere follower, unsure about what a new life with Takiyok would mean. Zephyr called for a team that Taikon didn't know, and he felt strangely tense. They had been through too much for him not to feel this way, but he trusted Zephyr. So, he glanced to Takiyok, offering her a comforting smile, happy that they had made it across the mountains. Protection was on its way. They would finally be safe.
