The bear watched the other wolf turn. Fear scent overcame the world eater. He did not want this meal to escape him. Their stench urged him forward. One paw swung out and connected with the fleeing pup. The wolf’s body was tossed easily against stone. It faltered there. Heimsætur’s claws had left a raking mark across the prey’s ribs. Blood began to seep into the snow.

Dark eyes fixed on the red-naped whelp. Heimsætur roared, lunging toward Quennell with a snap of his teeth.
