At last her eyes drop, the grinning faces of family illuminating in mind. The pain of their loss is too fresh to bear. Perhaps she should not doubt the sooth in Faust’s words. He has the look of one attuned to solitude, but this cold, lonely existence is new for the young huntress.
With a sharp inhale, thoughts are ripped away from Ashēer. She waits for her heartbeat to settle, gaze flicking ahead to where the man feeds. Her face maintains suspicion, but the blue eyes glint with emerging curiosity.
