Kildeer Rest otter boy

it was like a gentler digging. too rough and the root would tear, leaving it useless. but too gentle and they'd be stuck all day trying to get just one herb. he'd realized as he swiped at the patch they'd made. all he needed to do was avoid using his claws.
each pass revealed more and more, and the boy wished to see more, and more. how far can he go until he finds nothing but dirt and worms?
he was another swipe away before the woman's voice rang out. the trance he was in quickly dissipated, and he settled back onto his haunches. her compliment received only a slight smile and a boyish shrug as his thanks. that's not so hard..

but how do you know to find them? was it all guesswork? he watched as she gathered the herbs into a bundle. it wouldn't be enough for a pack, but it was a start.
