Nokht didn't know the new pharoah as well, nor did he even know the old one. What he did know was his own status, born a fellahin child.

His life weighed differently than others. He did not know the plans that went on behind the scenes, if rescue was ever something contemplated by those from such higher stations. What he did know was that he had sat in that dark, cold prison for days, which turned to weeks, which turned to a month; enough to extinguish any hope he'd had.

A fellahin life was not one worth the risk of others.

It wasn't even Pharoah's men that had saved him. It was a ghost, unknown and yet deeply familiar.

Realization did stir in his heart, but he did not want to entertain that thought. Not like he could've asked anybody.

Maybe they do. It's natural for them. He murmured, detached and cold. ..But pharoah Samirseti found me in the desert after—. He hesitated, skipping over his words. He brought me here when I would've died out there. I.. don't know if he looks down on us as much as he might seem like it.

He knew he should be grateful. He was, but trust was a fickle thing for him. ..I don't know. I hope they aren't, I guess. The boy mumbled.
