RIP
wanted to give the pups a chance for the mainland as not to strand anyones story. staying very vague either way <3 @Fabienne & @Noé

it would never be explained how chani managed to do it.
a mind snapped by solitude and the unrelenting calls of the sea. her shouting, her wailing, her screaming — chani; undone.
a piece of driftwood.
her eyes, blurring as she stared toward the horizon which she knew was only able to be seen at midday, and then once in the evening.
she had counted. she had waited.
she had launched.
chani would never be able to say how she had managed it. how through the hours and the frigid water she was able to keep her conscious or the steady monotone of a french song.
and she knew it, as soon as the land lapped into view again, nearer;
a piece of driftwood;
a mind that screamed no further
a giving, deep inside.
but in chani lived the voice of a thousand oceans, the echo of lwa dredged deep.
it was their power which brought her at last to the lapping sands of the deep blue cape.
a piece of driftwood; her shaking arm pushed it high, high, high into the tangled sandgrass and dunes.
a thin, blurring cry from a chest too weakened, but chani threw its sound into the air until she felt it had a chance of reaching @Shadess and those others of her family.
maman
maman
she rolled to her back against the sand, and overhead the skies to her dimmed gaze seemed to darken, streaked now with thick pale lightning. each light felt! each hum of energy experienced. electricity lifted her, and Sogbo set down His face from the clouds once more.
what has a howl but no throat? asked the lwa.
chani's face broke into a dreamy smile.
the wind.
very good!
glowing yellow, grandmotherly arms opening.
we did not expect to see you so soon
but you are welcomed, daughter of sapphique.
and down came rain like silver pearls, wind whipping as Sogbo carried away the seawolf's spirit and left her flesh softly there upon the bank.
