Pushing back to his full height—but making a point to keep his head and tail lowered—Vermouth looks at her face. There’s only admiration on his as he studies her ivory features, offset by striking blue eyes. He averts his gaze quickly, his heart thumping roundly in his chest.

“I’m Viper,” he tells her, unaware that she’d already heard.

But he abruptly remembers the red woman and turns to look at her, only to find her gone. He blinks once, then faces Odessia once more.

“You’re stunning,” says Vermouth. He wants to ask her if he can court her, though first things first: “Tell me about yourself, Odessia.”
