An onlooker would have realized that she wasn't even aware of her little shadow trotting about ten yards behind her, stopping to sniff here and there so that the gap gradually widened between them. Eventually, the runt paused long enough that his mother disappeared from view, though he was too busy sticking his nose in a smelly rabbit hole to even notice... and, of course, she had never known he was there in the first place and wouldn't even miss him.
