He stood his ground as the lupine darted back -- wondering how he, a tiny lil owl -- could scare a wolf. It dumbfounded the simple bird. He hopped backward when the wolf stepped forwards again, speaking again. He took a few more hops back and hooted again. He wondered in the wolf wanted to climb, but simply couldn't find the path. He flew a short way then landed again, looking back to the wolf. Maybe he didn't have to be a butt for now.

He took off again, this time wheeling around to search for a path to help the traveler. Why was he doing this?
Maybe he was just having a release of kind nature; something he kept hidden to save his own feathers.
He'd certainly have to dive upon someone later. 
He circled back to the wolf, flying lower and slower, serving as a guide westwards. He felt a strong desire to turn in that direction and felt like the wolf would be curious too.
He didn't mind flying, the mountains weren't that bad; right?
