She had been stalking the scent for a day at least before noticing a change in its quality. Her hunger was growing too strong; the heat drew out her agitation along with the growing desperation that a hungry animal often fell victim to. This place was so very different from the cold lands to the north — but it was a sign of the times, never before would Kilalurak have ventured this far south in order to survive, and it showed. The heavy-set woman had thinned in the months following her arrival to this place. The valley that had been her home was not enough to sustain her so she roamed, wasting precious energy to haul her immense body onwards, day to day.

She saw the mountains and thought they looked menacing — but also familiar, for the higher reaches vanished in the white smoke of cloud cover and her heart was reminded of the cold lands, the thick ice, the taste of sweet seal fat upon her tongue and all the fish she could claw from the frigid rivers. With hope settling inside of her for the first time in weeks Kilalurak had begun to seek out those mountains. She found solace soon after. The crunch of snow beneath her paws was a welcome sound — the woman frolicked (as much as someone of her size could frolick) across the ice, until the scent caught in her piggish nose.

The bear was loath to leave the glacier behind but she knew that food was of utmost importance; so soon enough the white expanse retreated behind her, and she roamed the lowlands. The forest was difficult for her to traverse. The trees too closely packed together where they grew, the soil too loose and muddy where the shifting spring-to-summer weather had softened it. She felt the spray of a morning shower for a few hours - this did little to dissuade the gargantuan bear as she prowled through the trees - and by the afternoon her dense white coat was dry again.

The scent had shifted away from being prey to being more than that — it was familiar, and caused her to skulk whereas Kilalurak would usually continue unperterbed. The scent was of wolf and she was unafraid, but — it was familiar too, which was the reason she seized and observed the green around her, curious and impatient for the creature to show themselves.
