All Welcome
My first post with Maiira. Whoever joins, please DON'T feel the need to match post length.

Maiira trotted along the sand, wet with ocean water as well as the drizzle overhead. It was nighttime and not warm, and the light coat she had inherited from her coyote mother did not help much in these cooler temperatures. She knew, however, that to complain now in this mild chill would jinx her luck—for it would get much colder as the seasons continued to turn. It was barely autumn now. By the time the ghosts of ancestors would come along to haunt the living for one night, it would be much colder, she was almost certain. She grinned at the thought. She, of course, felt the spirits around her all the time—though for some reason, others insisted on calling her crazy. Oh well, she thought. One could not win them all.

The coywolf breathed deeply to capture the smell of the salt spray, and had half a mind to jump into the water and let the waves take her for a time so that she could wear the smell as a strong perfume afterwards. Unfortunately, as she knew from experience, the smell of salt spray and sand is much different than the smell of sheer ocean water. Still, the thought remained, lingering in the back of her mind. She imagined herself coming out of the water, wearing a dripping crown of seaweed that clung to her head like mermaid’s hair.

Large ears swiveled on Maiira’s head, aiming mostly towards the ocean to enjoy the sound of its breathing. Innnnn, ooooouuuut. Innnnnn, oooooouuuut. And if she were to jump in and submerge her head, she’d hear the constancy of the Mother’s womb, the sound of the Life Waters all around, ready to give life—or, especially in the ocean’s case—take it away. What creatures usually roamed the shoreline and circled the air here were asleep or gone far away, so there was little besides the Mother’s breathing to hear. Maiira continued to trot, zigzagging her way through the tide pools and stopping occasionally to fill her belly with seafood snacks.
