Two months had passed since that fateful blizzard. It was in that storm that Cal's mother, Star, had gone out in search of Marble, Cal's sister. Since then neither of them had returned and Calcifer was feeling more lonely than ever. He wasn't sure what happened to them or if they were ok. Luckily the concept of death wasn't an option in his head and never dared to cross his mind. Mahler had been around a lot more and spent time with Calcifer, but unconsciously Cal had been isolating himself. Spending time in the den he had sleep in with his family and not straying far from it. Others in the pack passed by, but few stayed long enough for Cal to truly get to know them.

Today he found himself by the stream seeking out a fresh guzzle of water when an ivory rock in the water caught his eye. It looked so pretty and smooth, surely Marble would like to take a look at it once she returned. He took his paw and grazed it over the rock hoping to free it from the earth, but it was stuck. With spring only just arriving much of the earth was still hard and solid. In an attempt to free the stone he began digging into the water, creating quick a splashing ruckess.
