Despite the raging fires beneath her skin, Wayfarer could feel only the biting cold of her extremities. Her tiny body trembled and she whimpered pitifully, though the proximity of her care-giver who curled herself protectively around her brood did bring some small comfort.
Her belly ached, for it hungered, yet she continued to resist milk for fear of heightening the pain. Wayfarer's priority was to seek warmth so, entirely unaware of her dangerously high temperature, her simple baby mind urged her to snuggle in as close as she could.
