Nearing two months old, Lucette had rapidly shed her scant puppy fat in favor of a lanky, whip-like build. Her muzzle thinned sharply, ears narrowing, cheeks turning sallow with the passing days as if she'd aged a century in mere weeks. Her eyes, too, took a wizened look; a haunted look. But still so full of venom for all but her mother and her beloved @Lafayette.
His name was the only word to pass her lips in these early weeks. At least where others could hear.
To her twin she whispered all sorts of secrets, stories of treasures she took from the sea, grand plans for their adventures one far off day along the shores. When it was only the two of them, Lucette spoke endlessly. She spoke as if to her own heart.
She didn't say anything else for a long while after that.
