In a matter of seconds, three full-grown wolves arrived, sending Leo packing. Peregrine felt decidedly disadvantaged, particularly because of his eye, but he stood his ground. Through body language and demeanor, he assumed that the latest arrival, a black she-wolf, was the leader and the other two were her subordinates. His attention shifted to her primarily.

He heeded neither her dominance display nor her threat. It surprised Peregrine a little when it seemed to be directed at the other black male as well as himself. He glanced at him, then redirected his gaze, his jade eyes boring into the she-wolf's as he replied, "I've lived here for a year, so what makes you think I'm going to listen to you, you newbie bitch?"

Boldly, he took a step toward her, lips wrinkling back from his yellowing teeth. "This is your only warning. You're not welcome here. If you insist on trying to lay a claim here, you and your members will be harassed at best and killed outright at worst. Choose any of the other hundreds of territories around here, as we won't tolerate you living in our fucking ass crack. Do you understand? We will never stop until you're gone."

She could and probably would spring an attack, Peregrine knew. If she invited her comrade to join in, they would likely successfully get him to back down and leave. However, if she ignored his warning, that definitely wouldn't be the end of it. As long as she tried to set up camp here, the caldera wolves would not rest. They would attack again and again until they eliminated these imbeciles; of this, Peregrine had no doubts.
