Porcupine Ridge the shining [m]

Capriccio's appearance did not deter the beta wolf as much as it did Vuk, by virtue of their sexes. The tawny wolf ordinarily respected Capriccio to the highest degree, but presently the desire to breed was much stronger than his respect for the alpha female, and he was in a position where he could push boundaries. Her cold gaze was met with a wary flick of tongue, but before Vuk could go too far, the beta wolf had rounded her, risen up and gripped her tightly between his forelegs, heedless of Capriccio's silent warnings.

He only got a few thrusts in before Taggarik arrived and slammed into him. He wasn't even sure whether he'd managed to hit his mark before he was torn away from Vuk, yelping and tumbling, and set upon by the larger and fiercer Taggarik. He struggled to find his footing, every inch of his body screaming submission, but there was still that drive, that want; the male would try his luck more than once here, perhaps even to the detriment of his rank and place in the ridge pack.

Such was the mind of a male when sex and reproduction were at the forefront of it — get it or die (not literally) trying.
