So even tho puppies eyes were meant to open last week, I wanted Clover to be a little delayed—at least on that front!

Clover was a perfectly healthy child, and exhibited perfectly healthy behavior—with the exception of the opening of her eyes. That this was a developmental milestone that might stress out her elders she did not know. She still ate heartily, squirmed around even more, and interacted with her family to the best of her ability. That anything was amiss, well, she hadn't the slightest idea.

One day though, everything changed. In the middle of a cleansing, Clover was roused and hungry. But a loud, shocked squeak came forth from her. She did not know what had happened, but things were suddenly quite different and blurry. It was a dizzying experience for the cub, who—instead of latching to a teat as she normally would—lay rigid.

:D

Lagan was lazing about in the Blackthorn den, dozing in a pile of pups and dreaming about the terrific Tapat. His crush, the prettiest most exciting boy he'd ever known. He would go visit him again soon. He had to. He wanted to spend as much time with his family and the new kids as possible, but also with Tapat. So he would divide his time wisely, spending most time at home and taking a couple days at a time to travel south. He was having a dream about him and Tapat flying circles around the sun when he woke up.

One of the small silver blobs near him was screeching again, the one who Lagan thought was named Mathematics. It was squirming about and then it stopped. Lagan peered down at it, worried at first that something was wrong. But then he realized that it's eyes were open! The late bloomer had done it! He shifted to face her, sticking his big head down so that it basically was all she saw. Hey Math! You got some bug eyes dude! He said, admiring his baby sister's blank stare.
hey, motherfucker!

it was so quiet, so peaceful. the pup laid around on his plump tummy and suckled and napped the day away, content on so many levels... until the peace was broken.

tegan, who'd had his eyes open for a whole week by now, was actually quite bothered by that screech. he too sat up rigid and confused, but for different reasons. his own vision was still pretty blury and useless, but he understood somethings by now. his eyes-- bright and puppy-teal-- shot around to the source of the nose. it turned out to be none other than one of his punchy siblings(whom tegan saw as nothing more than a small gray blur). no longer hungry, the eldest blackthorn baby let out a distressed noise, something inbetween a whine and a screech, and batted his tiny paws against the ground. that would show them! messing with his peace and quiet...

As it so happened, it was Elwood who was cleaning Clover when her eyes finally opened. He and Finley had certainly noticed that she hadn't acquired her vision at the same time as her siblings, and when she gave a sudden yelp and he looked down to finally see her baby blues gazing up at him, he made an excited sound of his own.

"You can see!" he said, as Lagan simultaneously swooped down from nearby and put his face right in Clover's new line of vision. From nearby, he heard Tegan give a squall of displeasure, and while Lagan had Clover occupied he shifted to tend to the boy. "Your sister can see now, just like you," he told the pup, even as he pulled him closer so that the two could perhaps interact with one another.

Clover could not really see well. When her brothers face was there, it was one large blur, and the young girl scrunched her face together. Disoriented was too kind a word for how she felt. Clover turned her head, but this proved to be an overwhelming thing too. The world shifted as this happened, and she let out an alarmed squeak. What in tarnation! Clover found herself looking at her brother, and stared at this fixed point even as he let out a noise himself. Clover responded to his chirp with some of her own. The note she produced was a clearcut question: WHAT??????? What was this? What in the world was happening? The words of her father went well over her head, but his rumbling brought a comforting feeling to her. Clover could remember very little of things before, but the sound of her mother and father was one she had not forgotten.

Ok I love the puppies so much <3

Lagan was just as ecstatic as his father when Clover's eyes opened. He was still bent down, his butt wriggling up in the air as he looked at her. He had been super excited to see what color her eyes would be, and had totally forgotten that they wouldn't have much color yet. They were boring puppy blue, but that was ok. Soon, they might even be sunny apple green like Lagan's! She looked around, looking extremely confused, and Lagan watched her curiously. She began to chirp along with Tegan, and Elwood moved to tend to the other puppy.

Now that Elwood was absent from Clover's side, Lagan moved behind her and out his front legs around her. He gently pulled her closer to him, then spoke softly to her, hoping to make her less spooked. You can see now. You know what that means? That means you can see me, and your mom and dad, and all your siblings! You can see Towhee, and Orca, and Phox, and... etcetera, etcetera, the older Blackthorn boy continued to name every wolf he knew, even Tapat.

Watching the two puppies interact with each other was endlessly entertaining. Elwood chuckled at the sight of Clover's wrinkled up face, and then they began to yip at each other with their squeaky voices. Meanwhile, Lagan tucked Clover into the crook of his forelegs and began explaining to her all of the wolves she would be able to see with her newly-discovered vision. Elwood nodded as the boy listed Clover's immediate family, then stifled a snort of laughter as Lagan went on to name every single wolf he had ever met in his life.

"You'll be busy looking at all those wolves," he said to Clover, delivering a lick between Tegan's ears in the next instant.
