For all Hexe cared, she had achieved her goal - the female moved away without saying a single word - and just because this success was at the expense of some wounded pride, did not matter to the dappled she-wolf. The other was welcome to return, when she wished - others being interested in the same objects were welcome and even neccessary for Hexe to feel better and more confident in what she had chosen to do. But should the beautiful thing advance on Hexe again, she would be met with the same level of hostility. 

From the viewpoint of above, Hexe found a crack in the ice and began to dig at it. Lucky for her - the outer layer of the ice was brittle and soon her paws broke through. She had reached the place, where the encased animal's scruff was. Content with her success for now, Hexe lied down and took a good sniff at the creature, trying to decipher, what it had once been.
